Houston…We have Strip-Down!

So I didn’t quite think this may happen so quickly but I have decided to do the right thing and strip Marigold down immediately rather than try to use her on the road for a year first.

I have a week off work so things have happened quickly…

Heritage & Originality

As I look over the car I find such great original features.

  • Early tax discs
  • Matching dealer name on the rear window sticker, tax disc holder and number plates
  • Original chassis/shell stamped plates still fixed in the engine bay (x2) and drivers floor.

To Strip-down Or Not To Strip-Down

This is a difficult decision; Marigold looks very smart after a wash. The engine hasn’t run in 20 years but I am sure that with a good service it would run okay. What worries me is the few little bubbles of rust, and knowing Mini’s, there will be more under the paint that you can’t see!

Under the dirt…

Well doesn’t Marigold look better after a wash!

Look at that paint shine…..

Not everyone’s cup of tea of a colour, but she’s growing on me, something retro about the colour and Clubman looks.

Welcome, Marigold!

Having searched for Minis solidly for 2-3 weeks, I came across this beauty via Facebook Marketplace but it was unfortunately too highly priced for me! I dropped a quick message to see how flexible they were on price as they were open to sensible offers so I went to view it. not long after a deal was struck and a few days later she was collected…

Marigold, aptly named by my wife, is a 1973 Austin Mini Clubman Auto – the previous owners had looked after her more than 41 years! She’s a real barn find having been laid up for the last 20 years and needing a little TLC to get running again.

I’ve had a couple of minis before but never a clubman. So excited to give the car a new lease of life as it’s been stood 20 years so a proper barn find!

Originality

The reason I picked Marigold is due to it being just so original, more so as I would find out when searching through the side bins and in the tax disc holder.
